Stock Manager Needed at Parikanapa Station, Gisborne, New Zealand

Pāmu – also known as Landcorp Farming Limited – is seeking an experienced and proactive Stock Manager to join its high-performing team at Parikanapa Station, a 2,350-hectare hill-country breeding and finishing farm located in the Waerenga-o-Kuri district, about 40 minutes from Gisborne. As Stock Manager, you will lead day-to-day livestock operations, maintain high animal welfare standards, and contribute to effective pasture management. Job Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position should possess:

  • Proven experience in livestock and stock management, preferably in a hill country or large-scale farming environment
  • A sound understanding of feed budgeting and pasture planning techniques
  • Excellent animal husbandry and stock handling skills
  • Practical knowledge of farm systems and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Confidence using digital farm management tools such as Farm IQ
  • The ability to supervise casual or seasonal workers effectively
  • Time management skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • A commitment to health and safety standards and animal welfare
  • Experience working with horses, or a strong willingness to learn, as horses are regularly used for shifting stock
  • A valid and full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • Legal eligibility to work in New Zealand (citizenship or permanent residency is required)

Responsibilities

As Stock Manager, you will play a key role in the farm’s overall livestock operations. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and carrying out livestock movements and general stock work
  • Monitoring animal health, administering treatments when needed, and ensuring welfare standards are maintained
  • Measuring and managing pasture, and contributing to seasonal feed planning
  • Recording accurate data using Farm IQ and other digital tools
  • Collaborating with the Farm Manager on planning and executing farm strategies
  • Training and overseeing seasonal staff during peak periods
  • Assisting with other farm maintenance tasks and operational duties as needed
  • Utilising horses to shift stock across the station as part of daily tasks
